Shem was one of the sons of Noah and was born before the great flood. According to the Bible, Shem was one of the preeminent figures of the early post-flood period. Melchizedek, on the other hand, was a king and a priest who was mentioned in the Book of Genesis. He appeared in the Old Testament as the king of Salem (later called Jerusalem) and was also known as the priest of the Most High God.
In Genesis, it is recorded that Melchizedek met with Abraham and blessed him. He also offered him bread and wine, which is believed to have established the basis for the Christian sacrament of communion. According to Hebrews 7:3, Melchizedek was without father, mother, descent, having neither beginning of days nor end of life; he existed outside of time and space, and this gave him a unique position of spiritual authority.
In some traditions, Shem and Melchizedek were thought to be the same person or closely connected. They were considered to be the heir to the spiritual authority of Noah, and it is believed that Shem was the ancestor of the Israelites and Melchizedek was their king and high priest. However, there is no direct evidence to support this connection and it remains a matter of theological debate.
